The lack of access to Medicare is one of the biggest downsides of retirement abroad and it may be a big enough negative to make you decide not to go. Some countries offer lower cost, high quality care that some people may be comfortable with on a pay-as-you-go basis. And some countries provide a path for you to access their nationalized health care systems.
